Maverick Magazine CD Review
Inspirational and enchanting debut album from a fresh and exciting new singer.

This is a quite incredible debut album from a fresh and extremely talented new singer. Made up with a mixture of feel-good songs and some of the best powerhouse ballads you could wish to hear, this is an album to match some of the biggest being released out of Nashville at the moment. Joey is definitely good enough to be competing with the top female country singers, and her songs would not sound out-of-place being played alongside ones by luminaries such as Trisha Yearwood, Martina, Reba etc..

With writing credits on nine out of the thirteen tracks, she also proves that she is a very good songwriter as well. And with glamour model looks on top of everything else, Joey seems to have the complete package to go all the way to the top. The first single from the cd is the highly infectious Swinging Door, which is the tried and tested formula of a woman putting her foot down on her no-good boyfriend with the chorus of 'Cuz your train don't stop here anymore. I ain't your gas up, rest stop, swinging door. You can't just walk in, walk out, like so many times before. I ain't your swinging door.'

At times Joey's voice sounds quite similar to Shania Twain, as on the excellently catchy Kiss 'n' Tell and the exceptionally enchanting Man Of My Dreams. But that is where the comparison ends for me, as Joey has such power and emotion in her voice, that in my opinion she is far stronger vocally, plus in my mind far more country as well!

There are so many tracks that are potential hit single material, given the right coverage and radio airplay. Crazier Than Usual is a fun up-tempo song, that with the right video to go with it could be big. Another song that just shouts out hit single is the equally jokey title track Take Me Off The Market, which is a tremendously catchy tune which has Joey daring her lover to 'Take me off the market, and make me your woman. Let's seal the deal, let's make it real and start making wedding plans.' Readers must know by now that I am a sucker when it comes to a great ballad, and there are some great ones on this cd. Joey's heartfelt and sincere vocals give you goosebumps on the beautiful Do It Again, and the strongly emotive Miracle is a power ballad of the uppermost level.

Believe is another wondrous ballad written by Joey and her brother Jason Pennock the day after 9/11, and Without You is just inspired as Joey, backed by some entrancing fiddle and piano playing, delivers some captivatingly bluesy vocals that literally take your breath away.

An album I would strongly recommend to the mainstream country fans, and if you would like to find out a bit more about Joey and perhaps even order her album then you can always log onto her website; www.joeydaniels.com
